Vishworoop

The stele (stone or wooden slab) of Vishworoop is placed on a very attractive and well carved stone platform. It depicts the scene of Bhagwat Gita in which Lord Krishna manifests his universal form to awestruck Arjun. Lord Krishna revealed his form of infinite mouths and eyes, adorned with divine ornaments and raising many celestial weapons. The detailed description of Vishworoop can be found in Chapter 11 of Bhagwat Geeta. He is decorated with divine garlands and garments and anointed with heavenly fragrances. This stele of Vishworoop is segmented into three levels, which represent the netherworld, the terrestrial world and the heavens. This sculpture from Lichchhavi period is extremely beautiful and thus, cannot be compared with any other sculpture.
