Budanilkantha
Budhanilkantha temple is in Budhanilkantha, Nepal. This temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and can be identified by a large reclining statue of Lord Vishnu. This statue of Lord Vishnu is considered as the largest reclining statue in Nepal. It portrays the deity reclining on the coils of the cosmic serpent Shesha. He holds the Sudarsana Chakra, conch shell, club and a gem in his four hands. He is embellished with a crown engraved with multiple Kirtimukha images which can often be seen being overlapped by a silver crown. It is believed that King shouldn’t see the real statue of Lord Budhanilkantha, so the similar but not the exact carvings of the real statue is found in the courtyard of many Hindu temples. According to a historical anecdote, a farmer and his wife once struck a figure while ploughing the field, which caused it to start soaking blood into the ground. This turned out to be the figure of the lost deity of Budhanilkantha, which was recovered and placed in its present position. Another legend states that the statue was sculpted and brought to its current location in Kathmandu during the reign of the seventh-century monarch Vishnu Gupta, who ruled Kathmandu Valley under the Lichchhavi king Bhimarjuna Dev.
