Statue of King and Queen

A statue of king Bhupalendra Malla and his wife Bhuwanlaxmi can be sighted in front of the main gate of the Changunarayan temple. King Bhupalendra Malla had renovated the temple during the Nepal Sambat 814. The statue was placed in the area as a sign of deep respect to the king and the queen after many years of renovation. Hence, the statue of the king in front of the temple is for the remembrance 21 of the renovation work implemented during Malla regime. The statue is believed to have been about 300 years old. The statue is beautifully carved, and gold plated. It is placed inside a metal enclosure for the protection against theft.
